MA-40 CADR: the V4.0 record has a specific room-size limit
The exact MA-40-V4.0 record reports 245 cfm smoke CADR, 257 cfm dust CADR and 263 cfm pollen CADR, with a reported area of 380 ft². Our calculated coverage at 4.8 equivalent air changes per hour and an 8 ft ceiling is 382.8 ft². The calculation does not replace the reported area.
The V4.0 suffix matters. This page covers ENERGY STAR ID 4497354, not every purifier sold as “MA-40.” Its 245 cfm smoke rating must not be confused with its higher dust or pollen ratings when using our smoke-CADR sizing method.
Does the MA-40 fit 400 ft² with a taller ceiling?
At 300 ft² and an 8 ft ceiling, this record exceeds a 4.8 eACH requirement. At 400 ft² it falls short, and raising the ceiling further increases the clean-air requirement. A floor-area label alone hides that difference.
| Area | Ceiling | Required CADR at 4.8 eACH | Delivered eACH |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 ft² | 8 ft | 192.0 cfm | 6.13 |
| 300 ft² | 9 ft | 216.0 cfm | 5.44 |
| 380 ft² | 8 ft | 243.2 cfm | 4.84 |
| 380 ft² | 9 ft | 273.6 cfm | 4.30 |
| 400 ft² | 8 ft | 256.0 cfm | 4.59 |
| 400 ft² | 9 ft | 288.0 cfm | 4.08 |
How the MA-40’s efficiency compares at similar airflow
Medify MA-40 V4.0 reports 5.53 smoke cfm/W, compared with a median of 6.55 cfm/W across 30 other certification records within ±15% of its smoke CADR. This cohort reduces the distortion of comparing a larger-output unit with much smaller purifiers, but it is not a noise, filter-cost or overall-quality ranking.

Electricity: reported annual energy versus constant-power use
The source reports 261 kWh/year, equivalent to $41.76/year at an illustrative $0.16/kWh. This is not a 24/7 operating claim.
A separate scenario at the snapshot’s 44.3 W derived power for 24 hours every day gives 388.1 kWh/year, or $62.09/year at that rate. Derived watts are rounded in the snapshot and are not independently measured. Actual speed, controls and runtime can change consumption; purchase and filters are excluded.

Noise, quieter-speed CADR, current retail claims, prices and filter costs remain unverified. No sleep-speed or health outcome is inferred.
Coverage and eACH use smoke CADR, room volume and the stated ceiling. Cohorts exclude this ID with inclusive, unrounded ±15% bounds; certification records are not product-family deduplicated. Cohort medians describe this snapshot, not the entire market.
