PureAirIndex · Bedroom sizing
What size air purifier do I need for a bedroom?
For a 150 ft² bedroom with an 8-ft ceiling, a 4.8 equivalent-air-change target requires 96 cfm smoke CADR. A 9-ft ceiling raises that requirement to 108 cfm.
Required smoke CADR = floor area × ceiling height × target eACH ÷ 60. This is a particle-filtration sizing estimate, not fresh-air ventilation or a guarantee of health outcomes. We analyze certification data; we have not personally tested these purifiers.

What the certification snapshot adds
These counts show how the available certified-output pool changes with bedroom size and ceiling height. Median efficiency and electricity summarize all energy-eligible matches, not just the shortlist. Higher-output units remain in the pool; this is not an equal-CADR cost comparison.

Electricity scenario: derived operating watts × 8 hours/day × 365 days × $0.16/kWh. This is not ENERGY STAR’s reported annual energy or measured overnight usage. Energy summaries require finite positive derived watts and certified efficiency; missing values are excluded, not treated as zero.
Before choosing a purifier for sleep
Ask for CADR at the fan setting you intend to use, noise measurements at that same setting, and whether lights can be switched off. A larger maximum CADR alone cannot establish adequate clean-air delivery at low speed.
Our source reports certification performance. Room coverage, eACH and electricity scenarios are our separate calculations. Noise, lower-speed CADR, retail prices, filter costs, lifespan and hands-on performance are not verified in this snapshot. Placement, mixing, doors and ongoing particle sources can affect real-room results; gas, odor removal and medical outcomes cannot be inferred from smoke CADR.
